Device Driver for Kenwood TH-F6A/TH-F7E Handheld Transceiver
With the device driver for the Kenwood TH-F6A and TH-F7E, RadioControl expanded its range of
supported devices to handheld transceivers. As first commercial product worldwide,
RadioControl allows to control these devices using this driver,
that is you can open them in the Frontpanel or use them for frequency search. In addition the
driver supports the exchange of memory channels between the device and a RadioControl Memory
File (upload and download).
Just for Comparison: The Original Kenwood Software MCP-F6/F7 supports the exchange of memory channels
with the device only and does not provide capabilities to control it. RadioControl provides both with
this device driver.
Device Driver Features
The most important features of the driver will be listed in the following:
Direct control of the TH-F6A/TH-F7E via RadioControl (e.g. using Frontpanel)
This will valorize the device and expand its application areas. For example it can be used
to create an allocation plan of a certain frequency range when you come into an unknown
geographical area. With the Copy to VFO function, you can tune the device directly
to frequencies of your RadioControl Frequency Databases or Memory Files by a simple key-stroke.
The following VFO attributes will be supported:
Squelch (shown as Level Squelch)
the whole frequency range (the transmission frequency range too) - the celluar band is
blocked in the US (TH-F6A)
all steps of the device plus multiples (virtually any step can be set)
all modes
Shift Function (incl. the software based Shift Function provided by RadioControl)
ATT
CTCSS
Squelch Status (this makes the device usable for scanning operations)
VOX
PTT (switching between transmission and reception)
Two completely tunable VFOs
The device driver maps the transceiver and scanner part of the device to the VFOs A-Band and
B-Band. These VFOs are fully tunable that is the driver hides the division of each VFO into
several frequency bands which were predetermined by Kenwood from the user. He sees a continuous VFO
only which makes the handling of the device very easy.
Exchange of memory channels between device and RadioControl Memory File
The device driver supports the transmission of memory channels from a RadioControl Memory File
to the memory of the device (upload). Of course the other way round (download) is supported too.
Device independent management of memory channels
Because the device driver supports the transmission of memory channels of a RadioControl Memory File,
the contents of virtually any RadioControl Memory File, you have already created (for other devices),
can be transferred to your TH-F6A/TH-F7E. Therefore it is not necessary to create an own set of
RadioControl Memory Files (and enter all frequencies a second time) for your TH-F6A/TH-F7E which
is by nature the case if you use the Kenwood Software MCP-F6/F7.
Support of alphanumerical Texts
Whenever you are transmitting memory channels to your device, the alphanumerical text you have entered
in the field Display Text will be transmitted too for each memory channel. The driver supports
the full character set of the TH-F6A/TH-F7E that is you can use special characters and umlauts in
your display texts.
Installation Requirements
Intel Pentium compatible Processor
Windows 95 or better
RadioControl 1.2
Connection Cable: To use all features of the driver, a
special connection cable
(not available at any dealer) is necessary.
Alternatively you can use the Kenwood PG-4Y cable too, but you will not be able to fully leverage the
device controlling feature of the driver.
Getting the TH-F6A/TH-F7E Device Driver
This device driver is included in RadioControl 1.2.
If you are not a RadioControl user, we recommend to use the driver together with the RadioControl 1.0
Lite Edition since it gives you a cost effective way to get to know RadioControl
by still supporting all features of the device driver. However if you need to control other devices too,
you should consider using the Standard Edition.
